Why IrriDesk?

1. Tested in a wide range of crops and irrigation challenges

IrriDesk (or its predecessor, IRRIX) has been tested in different tree fruits, almonds, olives, citrus, vines, as well as field crops and vegetables.

In those experiences, the irrigation challenges included

  • facing with spatial variability in soils and plants
  • aiming at fruit quality (e.g. in wine grapes)
  • troublesome soils (e.g. compactness, shallow water table)
  • irrigation with moderately saline water

for more information see the bibliography

2. Configurable for different irrigation strategies

  • Control the optimal soil moisture conditions for crop development, where no other limitations apply
  • Manage supplemental irrigation, where the allocated water volume is well below the theoretical crop’s requirements
  • Apply smart irrigation recipes, where the goal is optimizing fruit quality and its environmental footprint.

3. Purpose-oriented integration of technologies

IrriDesk does not stand on a single technological product, but on the proper integration of several technologies which are specifically arranged and tuned for the requirements of supervision and control of irrigation.

From data acquisition in the field, continuing on their processing and assimilation in a digital twin of the irrigated plot, until unmanned adjustment of the schedules in the irrigation controllers.

4. Designed for the paradigm of Internet of Everything

IrriDesk was designed for interoperability with other systems in the irrigation ecosystem, looking for a collaborative approach to the processes of supervision and control of irrigation.

The whole set of the involved systems intertwins people, data and devices around these processes.

To enforce its interoperability, IrriDesk defines 3 distinct APIs:

  • API-sensors: to import sensor data from data-acquisition platforms
  • API-prescriptions: to send irrigation prescriptions to irrigation controllers
  • API-IrriDesk: to let 3rd party platforms embed the functionalities of IrriDesk.
